we helped save the trees

One of our most fulfilling projects was working with the Preserve Oakwell Movement. The Oakwell movement began in September 2018, when the Lower Merion School District in Pennsylvania purchased 13.5 acres of land by Eminent Domain.

This is no ordinary parcel of land, but a virtual oasis of life, with hundreds of mature-growth trees, some over one hundred years old, hundreds of species of animals and plants, and a virtual biodiversity habitat.

The Lower Merion School Board wanted to tear it down and replace it with athletic fields. The residents fought back, and we helped. We increased their social media outreach, built a website, and helped create lawn signs and tee shirts. We also reached out to local media to get coverage of the movement and its various events. We recorded school board meetings so supporters outside the township could keep track of the Movement's progress. 

Six years, and three school superintendents later, the people finally won, and the school board decided to resell the property to Natural Lands. The moral of the story, never underestimate the power of VOICE!
